In May 2008, facebook engineers announced facebook connect, a cross-site initiative that allow users to publish on third-party sites in their newsfeed.

Jack Dorsey was a graduate of New York University, introduced the idea of individual using a service message to communicate with a small group. Twitter was launched as an sms-based communication platform.

LinkedIn was founded in 2002 by Ried Hoffman and was launched in 2003. Linkedin became prominent before the end of 2003 because the growth was initially slow.
As at 2014, LinkedIn has over 315millions across the globe and was able to achieve this with major improvement on flexibility of their app and addition of features which makes desirable for business, career owners to connect across the globe.
